Radio & Broadcasting

Nick is one of the founders of the community radio station Seahaven FM based in Seaford in East Sussex. He has had a life long interest in radio which started by DJing as a teenager in the 1960s and some time on hospital radio and a land based pirate radio station in the early 1970s. Nick has done a variety of related work in discos, clubs, as well as studio production and voice work. Now after a long break is back working in radio.

The idea for Seahaven FM started in 2006 to promote businesses and the local community to people living and working in the area. As in most areas there are a lot of good things happening that local people are not aware of, so the idea for the radio station was help change that. It took a lot of planning and hard work from a number of key people to get the station off the ground. It was originally Nick's baby and he was lucky enough to find a lot of support, without which the station would never have got off the ground. By 2008 the station had made a number of test broadcasts and Nick was responsible for writing the application to Ofcom for the full-time community radio licence. The application was submitted to Ofcom in October 2008, it was a long stressful wait until September 2009 before getting Ofcom's answer.

Then the hard work really started, there were several setbacks but the station was finally on FM full time on January 9th 2011.

Seahaven FM is one of many Community Radio Stations that are not-for-profit and are staffed largely by volunteers serving their local community and bringing a refreshing change to the now established corporate world of radio.
